In the next edition of our SMSF online masterclass series for 2024, SMSF specialists, Aaron Dunn and Tim Miller delve into the topic of insurance within a SMSF.  Using the case study of the Malthouse family and Little Brewers Super Fund, the specialist SMSF session will explore the structuring of the different types of insurance, its deductibility, along with the impact and options with insurances proceeds in the event of injury, illness or death.

This 3-hour masterclass (providing 4 CPD hours) will cover the following types of insurance:

• Life insurance (death), including terminal illness
• Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) that causes a fund member to permanently cease working in any occupation that suits their education, training and experience.
• Income protection where a member’s temporary incapacity has caused them to temporarily cease working.

We will also explore a range of insurance based strategies including the future liability tax deduction and structuring insurance payment for transfer balance cap purposes.

Attendees of the SMSF online masterclass will receive a detailed answer booklet to the case study activities.
