The break over easter gave me an opportunity to contemplate the success of this year’s SMSF Day events around Australia. With over 180 attendees across the five locations, it was fantastic to once again be out in front of our members, and other professionals that join us for these highly technical and intensive SMSF full day events.
To reflect on why these days are so well received, I thought that I’d share just some of the feedback from attendees, some who have attended for the first time, others who continue to come back year-after-year. With an overall attendee rating of 4.54/5.0 (across all sessions), it’s fair to say satisfaction and overall value was high:
“Thanks to Aaron and Tim, really worthwhile session and glad I went!”
“you are a very trusted and valuable source of knowledge for our business. The day was the right topic, right level of depth and the right amount of time. Excellent work!”
“Fantastic as always. I usually struggle a great deal to sit still and pay attention for a whole day of training, but your events always seem to keep me focussed and interested so great job – thank you Aaron and Tim.”
“Aaron and Tim are an absolute pleasure to listen to, their knowledge and presentation skills make this the only event I ever attend.”
We are very deliberate in setting up the format for the day… a technical update to kick things off, then 3 x sessions utilising our Little Brewers Super Fund (and Malthouse family). We expect attendees to come with a level of SMSF knowledge, and use the case study to challenge thoughts on issues, unpack ideas and help to develop advice that you might take back to your own clients. Utilising the same case study throughout the year, at both the SMSF Days, but also our online masterclasses, helps to feel like you’re navigating an actual client and you get to know the Malthouse family and look at the different life events across the generations.
It is this format that attendees love, with a 97.4% approval rating:
“Presenters were very engaging and promoted participation in discussions.”
“More engaging and not just throwing information at us all day.”
“The case study format provides great examples of how to work through the issues we face without getting into the nitty gritty of why the legislation is the way it is – it allows us to take that offline if needs be.”
“As it assumed a general level of knowledge instead of rehashing what all practitioners should already know and engaged us in productive learning and conversations.”
We have been asked about whether we will be doing an SMSF Day Online event this year? The answer is ‘no’. It is very hard to transpose what we’ve created in these face-to-face days online. However, we will continue to look at key topics through our online masterclasses (June, August & November each year) using our Malthouse family for those that wish (or prefer) to learn online.
A huge thank-you must go to my team, and to our event partners – Act2 Solutions, BGL, ASF Audits & SuperGuardian.
So, as we look towards 2025 with our SMSF Day events, there are a number of questions to ponder including locations, capacity and more. But in the meantime, we’ll just get back to building even more strategies and solutions for use to grow your SMSF business.
