What an incredible few weeks it has been. From 17 to 31 March, the Smarter SMSF team travelled across Australia for the 11th edition of our SMSF Day events. The energy in every room (and on every screen) was nothing short of inspiring, marking a milestone year for our community.
As we wrap up the 2026 tour, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the insights shared, the connections made, and the record-breaking turnout that made this year our most successful yet.

This year’s SMSF Day events was our most ambitious to date, spanning 5 major cities and a comprehensive national livestream. We reached record numbers across these events:

Timing is Everything: The draft regs dropped
If there is one thing we know about the SMSF industry, it’s that the goalposts never stop moving. This was proven in dramatic fashion on the very first morning of our tour in Brisbane.
As we were preparing to welcome our first guests, the Draft Regulations for Division 296 officially “dropped.” While some might see that as a challenge, for us, it was the perfect catalyst. We were able to unpack the new details in real-time, providing our attendees with some of the first technical breakdowns of the regulations in the country.
Throughout the tour, Division 296 remained a central pillar. We explored the nuances of the earnings calculation, the impact of unrealized gains, and the strategic shifts practitioners need to consider before the 1 July 2025 commencement.
