Risks in managing SMSF pensions

There is a growing importance in the effectiveness of SMSF pension documentation.  Historically there may have been a ‘gap’ in the provision of various SMSF compliance documents, and a somewhat heavy reliance on SMSF software providers to support practitioners with these templates.

In recent times we have seen expectations of fund documentation increase by the Regulator and auditors alike to support the relevant decisions around various decisions, including the payment and management of super income streams.  This greater focus on SMSF documents requires better alignment back to the fund’s governing rules, which ultimately ensures that both trustees and practitioners are managing the legal and compliance risk that comes with documenting and managing key decisions.
